How powerful & reliable are your servers?

We use Intel Pentium III 866MHz (or higher) processors on our servers with 128 to 1024 MB of RAM (DDR). The systems are running a version of Red Hat 7.1 Linux or higher. Our servers have been optimized and customized for maximum efficiency. Furthermore, since we are running Linux on our servers, the Operating System is able to utilitize the resources of the computer more effectively and efficiently and the speed in general is much faster than a Windows NT server (or other OS). Linux does not require a lot of memory or processing power (compared to other operating systems). The point is that our servers do not need to run on a SPARC, DEC-ALPHA or similar platform/architecture. Our servers are extremely fast and robust. In fact, we over-power our servers so that they can perform flawlessly under the heaviest loads.

Who registers my new Domain Name?
We do! You can register a domain name by clicking on this link.

Other International Domain Names like .on.ca, .nu, .de, .ch etc. have to be registered by the customer (you) through their/your local Domain Registrar using our Technical Contact information and Nameservers. You can get this from http://www.drw.net/dnsinfo.htm

How do I transfer my Domain Name to DRW Networks Inc.?
If you already have a registered Domain Name and you want to transfer it to us to use with your account, you will have to change the technical contact and Nameservers for your Domain (through the company or Registrar that you used to register the Domain). For minimum or no down-time during the transfer, we suggest that you setup an account with us first (with your Domain). Upload your files as soon as you receive your account information from us and then transfer your Domain 48 hours later. While you wait for the transfer to take effect, you will be able to access your site on our server(s) with the non-domain URL/address that we will send you along with your account information. This will ensure that your Domain's new address (IP address) has propagated to other Nameservers on the Internet. You can get our Technical Contact's information and our Nameserver information at http://www.drw.net/dnsinfo.html If you have an InterNIC or Network Solutions Domain or if you registered your Domain through a different (or International) Registrar, you will need to change your Domain's Technical contact and Nameservers. You can get this from http://www.drw.net/dnsinfo.htm

I have uploaded or published my site using FrontPage, but why am I still seeing the default page (i.e Coming Soon)?
Make sure that you have deleted the default index.html file or index.htm file that was automatically created when your account was setup. You will find this file in your home directory on the server. FrontPage creates a file called index.htm as the default file. The Web Server looks for a index.html file before the index.htm file.

Do you support RealAudio® and RealVideo®?
Yes, we allow HTTP streaming of RealAudio® & RealVideo® files using what is knows as "byte-serving". This is similar to actual streaming. To stream your files follow these instructions:

1) If you have a RealAudio® file called file.rm create a file called file.ram with a line in the file as follows:
pnm://www.youraddress.com/file.rm
(replace youraddress.com with your Web Site's address or Domain)

2) To play the file you can call it as http://www.youraddress.com/file.ram from a browser or you can create a hyper-text link to it from your web page(s).

How do I use the SSL feature or Secure Server?
There are three ways to use the SSL:
Return To FAQ

1) You can activate the SSL Port with our installed Secure Certificate. This is free. The URL that you need to use should be in the following format: https://server.drw.net/username (Just use https instead of http and replace the word "server" with the actual server name where you account resides and replace the word "username" with your actual username or login name)

2) The second option is to use the SSL Port with your Domain (such as https://www.YourDomainName.com), but with our certificate again, but the only disadvantage of this option is that your visitors will receive a Security Alert or message on their screen or browser which may confuse them, such as "Site Does not match certificate" (This is because you are using our certificate registered to server.drw.net rather than www.YourDomainName.com). To activate the SSL you simply need to click on the "Continue" button. We can activate SSL for your Domain for a one time fee of $10 USD or $14.25 CDN (you can order this through the Account Manager button on the Account Control Panel), but your visitors will still get that message on their browser ("site does not match certificate...".)

3) The third option is to purchase a Digital SSL Certificate for your Domain Name through us. We will then co-ordinate with you and the certificate signing authority (Thawte Consulting) to obtain and setup your certificate. This will cost you a one time setup fee of $10 USD and your cost for the certificate through us is $159.20 USD. This is less than what you would pay if you purchase the certificate directly from them. Their regular price is $199 USD. We are able to get it at a discounted price through our partnership with them. This is an annual fee. A Digital Certificate must be renewed just like a Domain Name. Payment will be made to DRW Networks Inc. directly, since we are a Web Host Partner with THAWTETM. Contact us at sales@drw.net if you need your own SSL Server/Certificate. One reason why you may want a secure certificate for your Domain or site is because you do not want your visitors to see an error message like "This certificate does not match the site...". Another reason why you may want your own SSL certificate is because it would work with your Domain, like https://www.YourDomain.com rather than having to use an address similar to https://jupiter.drw.net/username
